Helping Hands Food Bank Ministry

For many of us, we don’t know what it is like to wake up hungry every morning. For those of us on a limited budget, that is the reality. When your income goes mostly to the landlord for your rent, it does not leave much for the other necessities such as food. We have a staff of 13 members of our church who strive to fill the gap between what people have and what they need. As a member of Feed Nova Scotia, we receive a portion of what is donated to them. With the help of the congregations at Church of Saint Andrew, South End Baptist, Holy Spirit and the Seniors Centre in Cole Harbour we are able to help many families put sufficient food on their tables. We also have a commitment from members of our Mothers’ Union to
supply us with toilet tissue. Popular items to donate are canned milk, canned tuna, pasta and pasta sauce, and crackers to go with the soup. Tax receipts are given for monetary gifts or donations of gift cards. If you would like further information on our food bank, please call Marie, 902-463-4769, or visit us while we stock the shelves on Wednesday mornings.
